Convert an HSBC statement PDF to Excel or CSV
HSBC statements show payments in "Paid out" and "Paid in" columns with a running balance. The converter turns them into signed amounts and checks every line.
| # | Date | Description | Amount | Balance | Check |
|---|
Did your statement not convert correctly? Download an anonymised layout file and email it to us. It keeps only where text sits on the page: every letter becomes x and every digit becomes 9, so no names, numbers or amounts are included.
Saved. Attach the -layout.json file to the email. Open it first if you want to check what it contains.
A typical HSBC UK statement table has the date, the payment type and details, paid out, paid in and the balance. Several payments on the same day often share one date, and the balance may appear only after the last payment of the day. The converter carries the date down to every row and checks each block against the next printed balance.
Payment type codes such as DD, SO, BP or VIS stay at the start of the description, so you can still filter by them in Excel.
How to get the PDF and convert it
- Sign in to HSBC online banking on a computer (the website is usually easier than the app for saving files).
- Open the account and look for Statements.
- Pick the statement and download it as a PDF.
- Drop the PDF into the converter above.
What the converter checks
- Paid out becomes negative and paid in positive.
- Rows that share a date get that date filled in.
- Balance brought forward and carried forward are used for the check.
