Convert a bank statement PDF to a QuickBooks CSV

QuickBooks Online imports bank transactions from a CSV. This converter makes that CSV from your statement PDF, in your browser.

When a bank feed is missing months, or a client only has PDF statements, you can still get the transactions into QuickBooks Online by uploading a CSV. The converter writes the 3-column layout QuickBooks accepts: date, description and a signed amount, with dates as MM/DD/YYYY.

Before downloading, check the green ticks: each row has been added to the opening balance and compared with the balance printed on the statement. Fixing a wrong line before the import is much easier than finding it after reconciliation fails.

How to get the PDF and convert it

  1. Drop the statement PDF into the converter above.
  2. Choose "QuickBooks Online (3-column)" in Download as, then download.
  3. In QuickBooks Online, go to the bank transactions screen and choose to upload transactions from a file.
  4. Select the CSV, map the columns if asked, and pick the matching account.

What the converter checks

  • Amounts are signed: money out negative, money in positive.
  • Dates use MM/DD/YYYY.
  • Only date, description and amount are written, as QuickBooks expects.

FAQ

Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop?

The CSV is made for QuickBooks Online. Desktop users can still import it through tools that accept CSV.

What if the balance check fails?

Rows that do not add up are shown in red. Compare them with the PDF before importing.
